Admission Information

Thank you for your interest in graduate study in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Kansas. Students interested in pursuing graduate study in pharmacology and toxicology should have an excellent undergraduate record in a relevant a relevant field of study (B.A. or B.S. in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, or related area). Students seriously considering graduate studies in the department are also strongly encouraged to gain some undergraduate research experience and apply to the Ph.D. program. Should you find our department of interest, an application for admission to the graduate school must be completed on-line (http://www.graduate.ku.edu/01-04_apply.shtml) and the appropriate fees submitted. The graduate school will forward your application to our department. To complete your application, please submit the following materials directly to the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the address listed below. All applications must include: a resume or curriculum vita, official transcripts of all collegiate study ( you may submit unofficial copies for your application but you have to send you official before being admitted ), an official copy of the results from the Graduate Record Examination, three letters of recommendation, preferably from professors or direct supervisors, and a 1-2 page personal statement outlining your research experience and describing why you would like to pursue graduate study in Pharmacology and Toxicology. All international applicants are required to submit an official copy of the results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language. Unofficial copies of GRE and TOFEL scores may be provided but admission cannot be offered without receipt of official copies of these results from the testing agencies. Once your application is complete, it will be evaluated in January/February for potential admission to the program in August of that year. The department does not consider admission for the spring semester. The department endeavors to admit at least 4 students per class but availability of funds and space also determines the final number of students who can be admitted to the program each year. Admitted students are provided paid tuition and financial support to cover living expenses for the duration of study given that they remain in good academic standing.

Completed applications for admission should be filed no later than January 15 to ensure full consideration for financial support.
